In the aftermath of a devastating accident in Thakurpukur involving two buses and three other vehicles that left 21 individuals injured, the first fatality was reported early on Tuesday. The victim, 69-year-old Nirmal Kumar Das, a former CID officer, sustained severe head injuries when he was struck by the Namkhana-bound bus while buying fruits at the 3A crossing on his way to his farm in South 24 Parganas' Burul.
Regrettably, Nirmal succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. His wife, who was with him at the time of the accident, narrowly escaped harm.
